Profile
WHO WE ARE
COVEDOZA is proud to be recognized as a female-owned brand built on feminism, positivism and pure hard work. We are an online platform powered by its growing community of feministas. Originally born in 2017 as a side hustle, COVEDOZA was inspired by our founder’s 3-year Peace Corps service in an artisan community known as Guaitil de Santa Cruz in rural Costa Rica. As an economic development volunteer, she saw first-hand the struggles the artisans from her community faced due to lack of access to capital, language barriers and lack of business tools and training opportunities.
WHAT WE DO
COVEDOZA is committed to financially empowering female artists that identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) from around the world by creating sustainable, short or long-term collaborations that will generate passive income for and awareness about the artist via our online platform. Once a theme is agreed upon, the artist creates the designs and gives COVEDOZA the right to print it on lifestyle products that aim to empower the women that buy them. We calculate the artists’ earnings at the end of each quarter, which are then paid via Paypal or Xoom at the beginning of each quarter.
WHY WE DO IT
For centuries, women have been involved in making art, whether as creators and innovators of new forms of artistic expression, patrons, collectors, sources of inspiration, or significant contributors as art historians and critics. Today they remain dramatically underrepresented and undervalued in museums, galleries, auction houses, and media. They face challenges due to gender biases, from finding difficulty in training to selling their work and gaining recognition.
We believe all women must be treated equally in the art world.
We believe in the power of educating people about the misrepresentation and inequities faced by women artists.
We believe art has the power to heal, transform and inspire.
We believe in the limitless potential of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists.
According to the National Endowment for the Arts, “nearly half (45.8%) of visual artists in the United States are women; on average, they earn 74¢ for every dollar made by male artists.” Therefore, COVEDOZA addresses the issue of women’s under-representation and pay inequality in the arts by educating the public about their work and their stories, while addressing the customers’ need for inspirational products to overcome mental health issues, depression, lack of motivation and adulting.
This is why we do it!
